Ruby Stone 05:18
RUBYSTONE (words&music © David Ross Macdonald 2009) cardboard crown was all that she wore rubies be the pebbles she stole from the shore even as i lose myself her wonder takes my hand wresting troubles from my head like those pebbles from the sand shifting thoughts that once were stone now drifting out to sea drawn beyond the breakers where a man thinks he is free feet sink to the sandy swirl with a memories chill and i have one last stone to throw the arc is cast and i am still be my ruby stone twisting in the morning light dance across my wall be my ruby stone be my ruby, be my ruby stone be my ruby, be my ruby stone SOLO be my ruby stone twisting in the morning light dance across my wall be my ruby stone be my ruby, be my ruby stone be my ruby, be my ruby stone with your arms wrapped round my chest and water to my knees together breath our greatest wish and listen to the sea given once twice returned or broken into two we take the tide and roll away and leave the stone that we once knew be my ruby, be my ruby stone be my ruby, be my ruby stone

Amberley 05:15
Amberley (© David Ross Macdonald 2010) took the name from the blood of a tree had a heart like a wing trapped in a stone wore round her neck like and embering tear cried from the suns of before where's my amberley there's a scar on the tree where the maple once wept there's river bed rock where the glaciers once slept and the oceans reclaim how soon they forget how blind kings once reached for the stars where's my amberley hung round her neck like a prism of pain bending the will of the foolish and vain who dared to defy whats written in stone and cast from a furnace of bones where's my amberley from blue earth to burn stone amberley holds the bones of the reckless and their dreams bound to before by the rosin of time that windows the warnings of old where's my amberley

Lantern Girl 04:13
LANTERN GIRL (words&music © David Ross Macdonald 2009) she's alone like a lantern on a hill singing out shadow lines by the light of her trembling candles song she words the wax as it melts to her rhyme pale hands palm the barely chain evening stalks yield and sway to the curve through her thin midnight dress she lets the moon have its way lanterns' call be the thorns to sleep wakes the vines of our years through the glass and the ivy arch I wake and watch as she drifts through the fields now she lies against my skin for her whispering breath I lean for her words of embering rhyme she sings me back to sleep one last time she's alone like a lantern on a hill singing out shadow lines by the light of her trembling candles song she words the wax as it melts to her rhyme

Rocks and Snow (© David Ross Macdonald 2010) these are things that we know how the string comes alive to the draw of the bow and the hairs on our neck now remember the tone and our hearts reawaken the song these are things that we know, they're as plain as rice in a bowl without which we'd starve in the dark and the cold as we cling to the rocks and the snow as we cling to the rocks and the snow these are things that we know, what falls in the west rises once more still in our sleep but the stars always roll as we cling to the rocks and the snow as we cling to the rocks and the snow these are things that we know, a feather in our throat that wings to our soul a voice that reminds us that we must let go from our grip of the rocks and the snow from our grip of the rocks and the snow

To The Tune 04:41
TO THE TUNE (words&music © David Ross Macdonald 2009) why would he bother to figure it out what'd be the point and where would he start rather just point his finger and shout singing along to the tune streets fill with sirens saint christopher bells blessings or omens, how could you tell children throw their parents coins to the well singing along to the tune to the black and the white and the never between bridges collapsing fall into the sea from way up on high such a beautiful scene singing along to the tune the ghosts and the gears that chew on our bones and threaten to leave us with nothing alone and won't be denied until it's all gone singing along to the tune the draw and the sigh of the bellow and reeds ours be the same as accordion needs but the melody chokes as the orchestra breathes singing along to the tune but a child to her grand fathers shoulders the air lifting her up so that w can all hear that what ever your purpose the message be clear that you don't have to sing to the tune that you don't have to sing to the tune that you don't have to sing to the tune......

Sacred Dark 05:12
Sacred Dark (© David Ross Macdonald, 2010) you know we all have something to hide i know cause i'm hiding this from you a lie that's told too early's like a truth that's told too late so let the saving grace of silence bell So we hold our secrets closer than our hearts Closer than I hold you in this warm and sacred dark And though we lay in silence may our hearts beat loud enough Guiding hopes between us into the morning light hearts have rolled the stone of God while heads cast stones from hell that fall upon a distant land and time we warmed our hands by burning books and stealing blankets sold we weren't the first but to the last we'll claim this land our own So we hold our secrets closer than our hearts Closer than I hold you in this warm and sacred dark And though we lay in silence may our hearts beat loud enough Guiding hopes between us into the morning light solo-tune words that keep our distance are like fears that keep us close hatred speaks a thousand tongues and years, but hearts are won when minds are made by souls who dare to near forever in our moment we're just minutes in a year So we hold our secrets closer than our hearts Closer than I hold you in this warm and sacred dark And though we lay in silence may our hearts beat loud enough Guiding hopes between us into the morning light
